Good news to all Hangouts fans, there will be a small update that most of its users will likely to enjoy. An important update that will make it easier for your to catch up on active chats.

Before, to catch up things you missed on an active chats, you need to scroll it to the last chat you’ve seen. Now, with this Hangouts update, you will no longer scroll and wondering “Where is the last chat? Is this? No, not maybe I should scroll deeper”

Hangouts Update: Unread Message Indicator redesigned

You just need to press the floating button “Jump to last read” at the top to automatically scroll to the last chat you read and you will able to see how many chats you’ve missed. (You can see it on the first screenshot).

On the other hand, another floating button will pop up “# new messages” below  when there is new messages in the conversation. (Third screenshot)

For some, this will not be very much appreciated since this is already featured in some apps like WhatsApp, however, for Hangouts lovers, this will be a great update for everyone.

The redesigned floating buttons was already visible on me in the latest version of Hangouts 17.0.148298972 (February 23, 2017 update). In some countries, it will take a couple of days to show it up to you, however you can bypass this by manually download the apk file from APK mirror and manually install it on your Android phone. Read this on how to install apk files manually.
