Android is one of the most influential and most common operating system for mobile phones in the world. As the number of users is increasing day by day, facilities are also increasing. Despite of being the most powerful operating system in the world, there are still those who don’t know what an android is all about.
What is Android?
In mobile phones, Android is the OS(Operating System) used in most smartphone handsets. It’s like a Microsoft Windows OS found on most Desktop Computers and Laptops today. It is an open source software base on Linux. It offers a variety of features such as easy access to Google’s own products and services like Google Search, YouTube, Google Mail(G Mail) and Google Maps.
This means that you can easily look for information on the web, watch your favorite video clip on YouTube, check for your new mails and locate your favorite coffee shop on the streets. These are the a few examples that you can do with your Android phone.
Brief History of Android
As many people know, Android was built, developed and founded by Google, but that’s not the truth here. In 2003, it was originally create and founded by the four experts that join forces to establish Android Inc. in Palo Alto, CA. These are Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Chris White and Nick Sears. In 2005, Android Inc. was bought buy Google for an undisclosed price which estimated to be about $50 million. It remained silence until 2008 when Google introduces HTC Dream, known as G1 in many markets,which is their first marketed mobile phone that uses Android OS, particularly version 1.0. Since then, it has evolve rapidly and become the most popular operating system for smart phones.
Google is constantly working and developing on new versions of Android Software. The developers are working pretty hard that the releases are faster than the old style of developing. These updates normally come out every 5-7 months but Google is slowing this down once a year.
Updates are release in alphabetical order under a themed code name beginning with version 1.5 ‘Cupcake’ though the earlier versions 1.0 and 1.1 we’re not released with specific code name. As of this writing, the latest version is Android Lollipop version 5.0.2. (Click to zoom)
The Android Market
Google Play(Play Store), formerly known as Android Market is the official app store for android smart phones and tablets. As of writing this, the number of available applications in Google Play Store 1.4 million apps. It allows users to download free and premium paid apps.
Although there are lot of apps and games to download, you need first to sign in with your Google account. By signing in your G-mail account, you now also have the ability to backup your contacts, messages, Wi-Fi passwords and other app data through Google server.
